Before treatment a full consultation and patch test will need to be completed at least 48 hours before.

The area to be treated will be sanitised and a thin layer of ultrasound gel applied. You will be asked to put on protective goggles. The handset will be positioned over the area and a pulse of light released. Your practitioner will cool the area and assess whether the desired outcome has been achieved. If not, the process will be repeated until the lesion has darkened. 

When the pulse of light is released, it is absorbed by oxyhaemoglobin and converted to heat in the target vascular structure. The heat causes the structure to coagulate and shrink, then break down. The broken vascular structure is then removed by the body through its lymphatic system.

 Should it be necessary to have further treatments, follow-ups should be spaced 3-4 weeks apart. This is to allow the body time to break down the coagulated vascular structure and target what remains.
