Fungal Nail

The technical name for fungal nail is Onychomycosis.

A normal toenail is clear and healthy appearing smooth and uniform in colour but the colour and texture changes when it becomes infected with fungus – this could be caused by something as simple as getting fungus spores under your nail from your shoe, risk factors also include ageing, athletes foot, psoriasis, diabetes and excessive sweating.

Once under the nail the spores will start to grow. The growing fungus separates the layers of keratin within the nail making the nail appear thicker and causing discolouration.

Onychomycosis is contagious and can easily spread to other toes or other people.

We offer a treatment for fungal nail at The Qlinic. If you would like to discuss this with one of our advanced skin therapists, please call 01629 733916. We can also advise you on the best course of aftercare once the treatment has been carried out.
