Blackheads & Keratosis Pilaris

Blackheads & Keratosis Pilaris are both conditions which are caused when the hair follicle becomes blocked.

Blackheads – a blackhead is a plug of sebum and dead skin cells that have blocked a hair follicle, a chemical reaction occurs under the skin causing the blocked pore to go black. These are found on the face mainly around the nose but also on the chin and cheeks.

Keratosis Pilaris – Keratosis pilaris is a harmless skin condition that causes dry, rough patches and tiny bumps, its often described as ‘chicken skin’. These bumps are caused by a build-up of a skin protein called keratin that block the hair follicle. This condition is usually found on the upper arms, thighs, cheeks or buttocks.
